Who will advocate for the human experience in our AI world?
Future Human Lab is reimagining how humans grow and thrive in the age dominated by intelligent systems.
FUTURE HUMAN LAB is a research hub and gathering place for confronting the fundamental shifts arising in the AI age.
Founded by an applied psychologist whose Human Readiness Framework is informing IEEE standards and UNESCO policy, FHL translates crucial findings from Oxford, Harvard, MIT, and beyond into accessible insights and practical guidance.
Our work makes the invisible visible. We examine how AI is changing the relational fabric of society, as it reshapes attention, judgment, creativity, and identity: the very things that make us truly human.
Join us. Not just to learn, but to shape what comes next.
Tech is evolving faster than the human systems that sustain it. Just because AI tools are deployed doesn't mean we're ready to use them wisely.
Hello, I’m Mel Sellick.
I’m an applied psychologist, doctoral researcher, and former NBC reporter exploring how humans and AI co-evolve. I’ve created the Human Readiness Framework now shaping global conversations through IEEE, UNESCO, Oxford, MIT, Harvard, and beyond.
AI is changing the social fabric of society, including how we relate to ourselves and to others. Instead of focusing on ‘what can AI do?’ I’ve been asking, “What is AI doing to us?”
My Goals Building FHL to bridge cutting-edge research and real life. Creating a space where educators, families, and organizations can understand what's happening. Shaping technologies that serve human flourishing instead of undermining it.
“Readiness turns exposure into agency. Without it, we're not using AI, it’s slowly training us how to think, feel, and behave more like it does.”
Psychological Readiness 101
AI tools are everywhere, but knowing how to use them isn't enough. This lesson examines what happens in your mind when you engage with AI, and why staying intentional is the real challenge.

The Human Readiness Framework
The Human Readiness Framework is an evidence-backed model for the psychological, cognitive, and relational capacities needed to engage with AI without eroding human judgment, agency, or connection. It looks beyond "AI literacy" to understand better what actually determines healthier outcomes.
The real risks won’t be dramatic. They are slow and subtle shifts in how we think, decide, and relate that feel normal while they’re happening. The Framework makes these invisible changes visible.
The Framework is for organizations navigating integration. Educators preparing students. Families trying to understand what's changing. Anyone sensing that "knowing about AI" isn't the same as being ready for it, or for the changes it’s already bringing/already on the way.
Future Human Conversations
FHL hosts spirited, inspired dialogues where leading researchers, big thinkers, creatives and community members explore crucial questions: How is AI changing us? What new stills do we need to cultivate? How do we protect what's essential? Cutting-edge findings meet real-world experience.
Our Conversations are designed for scientists sharing latest research. Practitioners managing professional dynamics. Families grappling with AI companions.
And You. Bringing questions, experiences, insights.
We explore relational shifts, chatbot use and cognitive decline. The attachment economy. Innovation paradox. Digital self-help. Identity and agency. How AI changes human development. We focus on practical strategies for maintaining discernment and connection. And so much more.
